Goal

An exploration of how we know about God. What can we know about God and how so? Who/what/where is God and what would happen if God did not exist?

Pre-stimulus

For this exploration, I did not create a pre-stimuli activity as the children were already expressing their perspectives on God.

Resource

‘God’s little ant’ —In this story, Peehu is just about to catch a black ant, when her mother stops her and says, “You must not catch a black ant, it is God’s ant.” Young Peehu, who is surprised by her mother’s statement, decides to follow the ant to find out where God’s home is! What is great about this story is that Peehu, rather than simply taking her mother’s word, decides to find out the truth for herself. In the end, she even draws her final inference from observations, i.e she feels as though God must be in everything (and is not one) when she is surrounded by many ants.

Stimulus

After reading the first few pages (i.e until Peehu decides to follow the ant), I ask the students to draw what/where/how God’s home is (if they think that there is such a thing).

Conversations based on their responses:

Me: what would happen if God was not there?

C1: Bad people will not be stopped.

Me: Where is God in all the times when bad people get away with things?
Thinking skill: counterexample

C2: I have always wondered where God gets their magic powers from?

Me: And, if God has magic powers, does God need a home? What else does God do?

C3: Eat and chill.

Me: Is there only one God?

C4: There is no one god.

Me: Who made these Gods?

C5: Gods made themselves.

C6: God is magic.

C7: I do not think there is any God.

In relation to their other responses, I asked: why do we think God lives above the clouds? To this, the children did not have a response. The child who had drawn a tree said that he had seen God come out of a tree. Here, I asked, ‘how can we trust when a being declares themselves God?’

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content. This is an h2 heading inside rich text

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
